Silver City Museum


The Silver City Museum creates opportunities for residents and visitors to explore and celebrate the diverse cultural heritage of southwestern New Mexico. It is nationally recognized through its accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums.

The museum is open to in-person visits. Wearing safety masks is required. The museum presents topical exhibits showcasing rich historical collections, contemporary and traditional art, and rare photos and documents. Exhibits in three main galleries on an accessible first floor change quarterly. A second and third floor (accessible by stairs only) present cameo exhibits about the creation of the Big Ditch and the Mining District. A cupola on the top floor provides a unique panoramic view of Silver City and surroundings.

The Museum’s Gift Store is ranked best among area shops for being the go-to source for local history publications, regional art pieces, jewelry, children’s toys, and souvenirs of Silver City and the region.
